Hanging a Cedar Porch Swing
Install a pair of eye-bolts or hook at least 4" further out than the width of each cedar swing. For example, if the wood seat is 60" wide, then the eye-bolts should be at least 64" apart. Once the chain is hung, this will pull the chain away from the edge of the armrest, keeping the chain from biting into the cedar. An additional benefit is when you swing, having the chain pulling the cedar swing outward will help keep the cedar swing motion forward & backwards, not in a circular motion.
Do you have trouble sitting in a porch swing? When you balance the cedar porch swing, if you have the front of the seat slightly higher than the back, this will help keep you from sliding out of the cedar swing as you sit. A higher front will help offset the weight of your body pushing down the front of the seat - keeping you from falling out of the swing as you sit down.
